Feng shui is the art of situating an environment so that you can flourish. When we create spaces that are in harmony with nature the results can be profound. The idea is to create a space that manifests an auspicious life. Luckily the art of feng shui can be done with little to no new investment.
You may have been introduced to feng shui when Marie Kondo hit the mainstream media encouraging people to declutter to create joy. While eliminating clutter, deep cleaning and surrounding yourself with things that bring you joy are all huge parts of the process, let's take a deeper dive into the art of how to elevate your space. Here are a few more ways to create more prosperity, abundance, and good luck in your environment.
This is a feng shui bagua map. To locate your wealth and prosperity corner, stand in your front entrance facing in, your money corner will be located in the far left.
The first thing to do is to add a plant. Plants represent the element of wood which is associated with growth and new beginnings. In addition, plants and flowers bring life into space. Some plants that are good for low light spaces are snake plants, money trees, and peace lilies. If you have a high light environment you may want to go with a ponytail palm, a buddhist pine, or the ever popular fig fiddle tree. Money trees (pachira aquatica) in particular are named for their association with wealth and being incredibly easy to care for, they are an excellent choice for new plant parents.
As noted on the bagua chart, the color purple is associated with wealth. Purple can be added in a myriad of ways, I recommend placing something like an amethyst crystal in that area, or another item (that brings you joy) that is purple. Purple is for increasing intuition, insight and wisdom as well. Feng Shui recommends using purple in moderation, as its impact is very strong and can overpower a room.
Another color associated with wealth is Red. More notably, red is most powerful when used as the paint color of a front entrance door.In feng shui, your front door is one of the most important parts of your home because this is how energy and opportunities find you. It’s important to make your entrance welcoming and inviting, and one way to do this is to intentionally choose a supportive paint color for your front door. Red is an auspicious color in feng shui, and it also offers protection and transformation of negative energy. A red door is very noticeable, so it can bring a lot of energy, attention, and opportunities your way.
Another color you may want to consider to customize your space is orange. Orange is for happiness, joy and positivity. In the art of feng shui it is believed keeping a bowl of oranges in your money corner is a symbol of luck and wealth. In addition to bringing in the brightness of life, you will always have a sweet nutritious snack on hand.
Adding a water fountain to your work space, office or home represents the water element, associated with financial wealth flowing freely. This does not need to go in the wealth corner- it is advised to be closer to the entrance to encourage abundance to flow into your home from outside. Ideally, the water should be flowing upward or toward the interior of the room or building, rather than downward or away. It’s also important to clean your fountain often and make sure it doesn’t run dry. A poorly maintained fountain will not have the same positive energetic effects as one that is well cared for.
Feng Shui recommends chimes and bells to bring prosperity and fortune to any environment, especially in your place of business. These sounds are soothing like being in nature and help clients feel at peace. It is not recommended to play music for clients, as what one person loves the next may not like at all. Chimes and bells not only make people feel soothed, they are known to clear out old energy from people and spaces.
