For those of us born blond, we’ve had to deal with barely perceptible eyebrows our entire lives. If you’re like me, you’ve looked far and wide for the best way to enhance and define your brows so that they stand out in all their gorgeous glory. Today’s trending eyebrows make it more important than ever for blonds to accentuate their brows. Eyebrows today are meant to be bold, while beautifully framing our eyes. Us towheads certainly don’t need to be left behind. While pencils and powders are fine for temporary definition, nothing beats a professional brow treatment.

The Ins and Outs of Brow Tinting/Staining

Before you invest in a brow tint, consider having your eyebrows shaped professionally either by waxing or threading according to your desired look. Once shaped to perfection, it’s time to add color and definition with a professional tinting or stain. What’s the difference between brow tinting or staining? Word choice! It’s the same procedure. Staining is just the new buzzword for adding color and shape to blond brow hairs. Who you gonna call for a brow staining? A professional esthetician or cosmetologist trained to use specific, professional products formulated to create the desired brow color and shape.

When brow tints are done correctly, they provide very exciting and satisfying results! It’s truly a worthwhile procedure, because color can last on your brow hairs for up to four weeks. Some clients with sparse eyebrow hairs choose to dye the skin within the eyebrows in order to create a more filled-in look, but the color on your surrounding skin will only last about five days. In between staining sessions, you can fill in any sparse hairs with an eyebrow pencil or shadow.

What to Expect

Your esthetician will mix up a formula with the color best suited for your brow. There’s a vast array of colors, from dark brown to medium brown to auburn. The color best suited to you depends on your skin tone and hair color. Your esthetician will apply brow color to your pre-shaped brows with a tailored eyebrow brush. It takes about 15 minutes for the color to take. Once time is up, your esthetician will remove the color from your brows with water. Together, you will ascertain if the color is dark enough, and will reapply if necessary. When applied with even coverage, brow tinting will even cover gray eyebrow hairs!

Between Session Maintenance

I find that I typically need to tint my eyebrows every 4 to 6 weeks. I can extend the time between my tinting sessions using topical staining products, like RefectoCil Cream Hair Dye.
RefectoCil Cream Hair Dye RefectoCil is naturally waterproof, and will give your brows a more dramatic, fuller look.
Keep your brows tame with an eyebrow brush, fill in any gaps with an eyebrow pencil, powder and bump up brows with a brow gel. There! Perfect brows for the Holidays.

I use Intensive but this tip should be universal for most brands out there. I have read that you can apply your developer to the brow hairs for two minutes, wipe off, then apply tint color (depending on manufacturers instructions) Works great!

Thank you for sharing your opinions regarding tinting. We love that everyone has different experiences. It has been our experience that when you keep the tint on for 15 minutes we find that the grey is covered successfully. Regarding the color remover, perhaps there was some confusion in the way we originally worded this, but color remover is meant to be used where color was inadvertently applied to the skin not where it should be, on the eyebrow hair. The water we described above in the article is when the tinting procedure is complete and any excess tint on the brow hairs is then rinsed off with plain water and then the procedure is complete. Thanks again we appreciate your input.

Most lash and brow dyes work great for their purpose but they do not color gray hair very effectively. I’ve used a variety of professional products over the years and the processing time for eyebrows is only 5 minutes and is removed with color remover, not water.

A smooth, flawless wax can leave your skin looking and feeling incredible, but proper aftercare is essential to maintain those results and keep your skin healthy. Freshly waxed skin is more sensitive and needs extra attention to avoid irritation, redness, or ingrown hairs.
