It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we're discussing a trend that can speak to those affected by hair loss of another sort...
Losing hair can be a devastating by-product of chemotherapy, and also occurs with conditions like alopecia. Wigs are available to women who have lost their locks, but what about other facial hair loss? For example, eyebrows and eyelashes? Lashes can be altered (read this article on caring for your lashes during chemo), but eyebrows?
Eyebrow Wigs Are "In"
Yes, you heard right... 'Eyebrow Wigs'! Apparently, they take human hair and weave it onto a silicone-type base, for a natural look. They come in different thicknesses and colors, and are applied like lashes with an adhesive that needs to get tacky or mostly dry before setting on the brow area of the face.
You can take them off gently and wash and reapply for reuse - up to several months after. Factors that may affect the bond are oils, sweat, facials or peels. If you have sparse hair to begin with, due to chemotherapy or alopecia, this may be a solution for your brow area. The application process for putting the brows on takes about 15 minutes. I believe the cost ranges depending on how many pairs you purchase.
Eyebrow Options Review
Eyebrow extensions (initial time to apply extensions then a fill about every three weeks)
Eyebrow microblading (semi-permanent and can last one to three years), and
Eyebrow wigs (15 min application, with appropriate care can last several months to reapply)
It's the future folks... Just do your research before committing to anything. Check out this guide to building and shaping eyebrows, by Esther Bolkin, for more info!
Eyebrow wigs may or may not be appealing to you, but the option is out there, and is being embraced by many. Awareness is always a positive in my opinion so with this in mind, now you know! :) #BrowSense. Let me know your thoughts on this advancement in facial hair beauty in the comments section below. I love to hear from you!
