As I browse all the Facebook and Instagram pages focused on Lash and Brow photos, products and accessories, I get overwhelmed. There are so many products out there. I can attest I have drawers full of partially used lashes, glue, gel pads and let's not leave out tweezers. I could fund a nice Caribbean Vacation with the money I have spent.
Every website has slick photos of their stock, jazzy descriptions of the products and their uses. How do I know what to purchase? Which products really stand the test of time? Which glue, which lashes, which brow products! Where do I start?
Most people start out using the products we trained with. Then we get on social media and see all these great products from other companies. Each one claiming to have the best performance, best retention, most reasonable prices and so on. How do you decide which products you just can't live without?
I have developed a small circle of fellow lash artists. We don't live close to each other so we keep in contact in various ways. We share our stories of client issues, product malfunctions, business trends and other day to day workings of our businesses. We do share the same product searches. We are always looking for glue with the best retention, viscosity and longevity.
What about those companies charging $100.00 for a 5ml bottle of glue? What is the difference between them and the company charging $35.00? We can't seem to get an answer. Just a lot of slick advertisement with pretty photos of perfect lashes. When I see that, well of course I want that glue. I purchase it and low and behold, it is the same as the lesser priced product. The retention is the same, the fumes are the same. What? Really? I can't tell you the number of times I have changed products on a recommendation from a fellow lash artist.
Herein lies the problem. I live in an extremely dry climate. So what I have discovered over time is that I need 2 different glues. One for the dryness and one for when we get our rainy season. Until I figured this out it was a struggle. My lash confidants live in completely different climates. So therefore their recommendations were hit and miss. One thing is for sure, Glad Lash's Ultra Plus Glue won't ever find its way to your drawer of shame!
I have also found this to be the case with tweezers. You know, I personally don't like ribbing on the tweezer handle. How do I know this? I bought them. They are now sitting in that drawer of discarded products. So my fellow artists, there will be dollars wasted on things you think you can't live without. But rest assured, you will eventually find the secret formula to creating beautiful lashes and brows.
