Wednesday Wink - Plan for the Unexpected

Wednesday Wink - Planning Ahead

Recently I found out I had to have a hiatus from my salon as an unexpected medical issue needed attention. What I realized after I worried about who was going to tend to my clients while I was off, was that I needed a plan. Since the other salon professionals that I share space with have no interest in lashes, I was in a dilemma.

I did train one of the ladies a year ago. She dabbled in lashes on behalf of her hair clients for weddings and special occasions. So she knew what to do. For further reinforcement, I reached out to a few other lash techs in the area to cover a few appointments for me and I was met with a very lukewarm response. Frankly, I was surprised. If someone asked me to help them out and cover several appointments, I would be happy to especially given the circumstances. You see, I didn't want my clients to be inconvenienced at all. I worked hard to cultivate my business relationships and I wanted them cared for in my absence.

Trust Your Instinct

To make a long story short, the reluctant lash artist was a huge mistake. She did things that I wouldn't have done and my clients didn't have the best experience. On my end, I should have been more observant of the lack of enthusiasm when I asked her to cover for me. My aim was for everything to go smoothly. I'm a planner, I like all the “t's” crossed and the “i's” dotted. I wanted one less thing to be concerned about.

The good news, my salon colleague stepped up, got out her lashing tools, put her head down and took excellent care of my clients. Not only did she generate some additional income, she wowed my clients with her dedication and loyalty.

So my final thought here, have a plan for the unexpected and put your faith in knowing everything will work out for the best.
