With 2017 winding down and a new year swirling around us, there are so many things to be grateful for. I want to count my blessings. First, let me tell you a little bit about my story...
My Journey
I have had the great opportunity to work in an industry that helps to empower women. As someone who was on the frontline of the 1970’s women’s movement, I have seen and experienced the changes that have been brought forward in our world and our beauty industry.
It wasn’t all that long ago that men weren’t even invited into a beauty salon. Hard to believe, I know, but oh so true. This amazing industry has given me the space to create, educate and beautify others and myself.
I was not the scholar that aspired to get a master’s degree. I wanted my hands in all things beauty.
My mother encouraged me to follow my passion. She pushed me... She literally shoved me through the door of the local beauty school, enrolled me at 16, and handed me the payment booklet for my education. Sounds a bit rough, but I am grateful for her insight. She saw something in me others didn’t. Thanks Mom!
I am Grateful
I am grateful for the kooky cosmetology instructor who teased up her platinum hair into a “beehive” and put Christmas lights in it - long before this was even thought of. She was a wild old lady! I loved her. She inspired me to be creative, to take the shackles off and color outside the lines.
I am grateful for the many challenges I have faced in my career. They have made me stronger, more flexible and more compassionate.
I love this industry, I love my clients and my work family. I am forever grateful for every lesson learned, for every mistake I have made and for my undying passion for all things beauty. I look forward to 2018 with youthful excitement and energy!
