Morning Routine
Did you know that the way you spend the first five minutes of your day may determine overall success? Upon waking, your brain downloads a program of chaos or peace (fear or love). Building a strong connection among your mind, body and spirit will help you begin your days with more peace and love, and who doesn't want more of that!
Mind
To get your mind right, implement five minutes of technology-free time in your morning.Find alignment with gratitude before checking your emails or the news. This will help tone down your reactivity to situations. While an hour free of technology in the morning and evening is the goal, five minutes is the minimum technology-free requirement for your nervous system. According to J. Kiwik, an expert on the genius mind, successful people are the ones who can separate themselves from the ‘matrix.' Kiwik says,“Do not give away your sovereignty and your power first thing in the morning by looking at your phone.”
Body
Walk, breathe, dance; get your body in motion!Get your body movin' & groovin' at different points in your day. Stand up, spin in a circle, stretch it out. If you have more time, do some yoga or go for a walk. The Native Americans think of walking as a ‘body meditation’ to ‘walk away from the old self”’. Changing up your body patterns changes your brain patterns, which in turn changes your perspective on life.“The trees know that dancing in the rain is the easiest way to not be weighed down” -C. Mcgeown.
Spirit
Meditation: Surrender to nature’s will. The best meditation technique is different for everyone, and no other human can tell you what is going to work best for you! In the book Miraculous Silence, Mitra Rahbar shares that“...dancing, singing, playing an instrument, drawing, and chanting are a few different channels to achieve a meditative state through the concentrated immersion into an activity.”To me, mediation is taking time to separate myself from other people's thoughts and feelings, allowing me to disconnect from the technology 'matrix.' This allows me to think about the truths that I want to guide my life. I have found that stillness is the key to unlocking my greatest potential, allowing me to download my most authentic self one present moment at a time!
According to brain scans, meditation begins to have an effect around eleven minutes. If thoughts keep bubbling to the surface of your mind while meditating, don't push them out! Instead, imagine placing those thoughts on a river, and watch them float away.
Adopt a Mantra
Chanting a mantra is a great way to help calm a mind that won't stop racing. The vibration of your voice from chanting is like a sound bath for the mind.
A great mantra to start with is: SA TA NA MA
SA is the totality of all that ever was
TA is life, existence, creativity
NA is transformation of consciousness
MA is rebirth, regeneration, the joy of the infinite
To add a Mudra to your Mantra:
Touch your thumb to your pointer finger on SA
to your middle finger on TA
to your ring finger on NA
and your thumb to your pinkie finger on MA
Repeat this for 11 minutes, and finish off with some silence and deep breathing. The mudra is optional, but it can increase effectiveness. If you are interested in a mantra based practice, Oprah & Deepak Chopra have amazing meditation experiences.
Use Binaural Beats
Up to 30,000 years ago, humans used the sound of a drum at 120-140 beats per minute to activate the part of the brain called the pineal gland, which naturally produces DMT! Look up binaural beats on YouTube or a music streaming service to enhance your meditation practice.
Develop a Practice of Gratitude
Meditation can be as simple as sitting up straight in bed when you wake, taking a deep inhale of love, then exhale love...Inhale love, exhale love...beam your love into your day. The eleven minute minimum goes by in a flash! After any practice, drink a glass of water. Following this habit for forty days will lower your cortisol release (the stress hormone), causing a positive rewiring of the brain. Now that you’ve mastered the morning...
Stay Woke In Your Workspace
“Everything you do ripples outward and affects everyone. Your posture can shine your heart or or transmit anxiety. Your breath can radiate love or muddy the room in depression. Your glance can awaken joy. Your words can inspire freedom. Your every act can open hearts and minds”- The Blue Truth, David DeidaIf your mind were a radio tower broadcasting, what is your station playing? How do you enter a room? Do you book gaps in between clients to reset yourself? Even if clients are booked back to back, take a moment in your day to stop everything and tune into your present emotions and state of being.I have two ‘declared moments’ in my day. #1 before turning on the car and #2 before starting a session with a client.“If you wish for light, be ready to receive light” - Rumi
