Cyndi Lauper....Madonna....Boy George...David Bowie...these kick-ass talents pushed the 'Beauty' standards in every way throughout the 1980s! Everywhere you looked... colorful palettes were a feast for the eyes & senses. Even DUDES got in on the style & wore makeup, pushing the androgyny ideal.

Let's reflect on some of the awesome-ness of this decade, starting withEYES!

1980's Eyes

Heavy mascara coated the top & bottom lashes while heavy black eyeliner framed the top and bottom lash lines. A range of colorful eye-shadows in hues of purple, pinks and blues were totally 'IN'’ bringing a world of vibrant eye “POP!”

Blush

BLUSH was used as intensely as the eye makeup. The cheekbone game was strong if you were going to represent the 80's. Swatches of deep plum and bright pink were indicative of this era, and lots of it!

Foundation

FOUNDATION ...hmmmm...I wonder...YES, you nailed it...a HEAVY application was absolutely the norm! Think about it, a really concentrated evened out palette was necessary to apply those crazy bright colors...it was definitely not a time of “natural beauty.” More was, MORE! The MTV generation was certainly mesmerized by such creative influences.

Lips

LIPSof course bright lipstick! Think, Fuchsia! When fuchsia wasn’t on-hand, lip liner applied a shade or two darker than the color of any bold lipstick created a coveted contrast resulting in a very full lip.

The 80’s was my jam....this is not just on a bumper sticker somewhere in the San Fernando Valley...it was a mantra that lives within most GenX-ers, I know! Beyond the crimped hair, rubber bracelets, guys in makeup and NEON...it was a monumental era in beauty that pushed the boundaries of what was considered conventionally pretty was. It was time to 'Wig-out' over pop culture and get 'Sprung' on day-glow and shows like “Miami Vice.” C'mon....what was there not to LOVE??!!
