Halloween is almost upon us and I don't know about you, but I absolutely adore this holiday! Not only because I'm a makeup artist but because now that I have a son, it brings a new level of fun and appreciation to the event, making it even more special.

Dynamic Duo Halloween Costume

Every year, we try to coordinate our costumes as a family – most years have been awesome – but my favorite memory of my son and I was our Halloween last year. He went through a Nightmare before Christmas movie phase, so of course, he wanted to be Jack for the holiday. Jack is the main character of the movie and is the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town. Jack's look is long and gangly. He wears a black and white striped suit with a tattered collar and jacket. He has a round white face and hollowed out eyes, nose, and mouth, like a skeleton almost. Halloween-Makeup-Application Obviously, I had to be Sally, the ragdoll created by Dr. Finkelstein. She is made of various pieces stitched together. She and Jack become boyfriend and girlfriend in the movie.

Make-Up Magic For Halloween

Luckily both characters had awesome costumes to purchase but the makeup part was where I stepped in. I can't tell you how much fun it was to paint my son and to create sally stitches for our annual Halloween festivities! My son had never before let me do his make-up so it was such a thrill having him sit in my director's chair for the first time! He actually sat pretty still for the most part while Jack's face was being painted on. To see his eyes light up as he watched the transformation and get a taste of what mommy does was a special moment for me. Then, it was my turn to turn myself into the bluish stitched together beauty that was Sally. I had some help from watching a YouTube video but I love the way it turned out.

A Halloween To Remember

It was such a cool experience from start to finish. He was excited to show off our costumes and so was I. From the Halloween carnival at school to the parties, we had such a blast being together in costume! Now, it's onto this year's challenge! We are not too sure about this year yet. My son wants to be Marshmellow the DJ so I am still thinking about how to turn this theme into a family endeavor! Any ideas?! Let me know your favorite family Halloween costumes.
